FC Mahou versus Mavericks would kick off Round 6. For FC Mahou this was their final game and final chance to put points on the board. Following 3 successive wins at the start of the day they had picked up 2 draws from the last 2 games – this had just opened the door for Trilution to win Group B. A win here would ensure Cup qualification and a minimum of second position.

Mavericks had two games left to play – if they won both they could potentially finish second if Trilution lost their last two and other results went their way. They may have been looking over their shoulders as the team in seventh was only a win behind.

Mavericks may have taken note of the two Portuguese performances against FC Mahou as they were equally as competitive as Trilution and Water Boy were against the current holders. However, they would not get a draw for their efforts as the Portuguese did. Mike Brandon's 8 th goal of the tournament ensured it would be a return to winning ways for FC Mahou.

With all the firepower up front for FC Mahou it is sometimes easy to forget the contribution of Marc Lawrie in goal with his defence of Mark Watkins & Pete Armstrong (amongst others) in front of him. In our Veterans tournaments they had now kept 9 clean sheets in 13 games and just conceded 4 in that time.

Trilution had two games to go and were looking for two wins that would see them crowned Group B champions. They were up against WEEDS Youth who currently resided in seventh position.

WEEDS Youth also had two games to go and were looking to lift them into sixth place or higher in order to qualify for the Plate. They were currently 2 points away from that position. It would be a tough task to claim three points here but if they could snatch a draw that would give a boost in momentum and confidence going into the final fixture. That extra point could also prove vital.

As it was, it was not to be for the English team. Aquino gave Trilution a 1-0 lead before Aquino again sealed the points for a 2-0 win. It took the Portuguese forward to 6 for the day.

Trilution had claimed the first of the two wins they needed. It was delicately poised going into the final round of games. WEEDS Youth would need other results to go their way in order to make the knock-out phase.

The penultimate game for Gosham Rangers was versus Water Boy. Gosham Rangers were currently 2 points above the “drop zone” which was 7th place and elimination from the tournament. They had a game in hand over WEEDS Youth and this was it. The could secure Plate qualification with victory here.

Water Boy were chasing a place in the Cup as they occupied third place. However, wins for FC Mahou and Trilution in Round 6 meant that the Cup was now almost beyond their reach. They needed to win both, hope Trilution lost their last game and witness a 6-goal swing in goal difference. Regardless, they would look to finish with a flourish as, even if they couldn't qualify for the Cup, the higher they finished the easier (in theory) their knock-out Quarter-Final would be.

Group B had been a high-quality affair so far with a number of draws and a lot of games decided by just the odd goal. This was to be another one. It was Water Boy who edged it with their third victory of the morning. Pedro Lamy was the man with the golden touch on this occasion as he helped wrap up third place in the table for his team.

Water Boy's hopes of reaching the Cup were still alive. For Gosham Rangers, they would go into the final round probably needing to get a result.
