Game 6 of Group A saw Saipan FC looking for their first win of the day taking on group leaders Sparta. Saipan FC could go joint second with a win whilst Sparta could secure Cup qualification with their third win of the day.

The game was in keeping with the morning's form book to date as Miguel Morcillo Aguado made it 1-0 to Sparta in the opening period. Saipan FC were unable to hit back in the first half and so we entered the interval with Sparta holding a slender 1-0 lead.

Could Saipan FC turn this around? The next goal was likely to be crucial and so it proved when Oscar Navarro Lopez continued his “goal-a-game” exploits to make it 2-0 to Sparta. You felt Sparta were on their way to victory and they put any doubts to bed making it 3-0 as Christian Perello Agudo scored his second of the day.

Sparta had qualified for the Cup with a game to spare and were looking on good form with 3 wins out of 3. All was not lost for Saipan FC but it was looking like they would play their knock-out football in the Plate rather than the Cup this afternoon.

Next up was Finca Del Tutu versus Boca Seniors. The Spanish team came into the game on the back of a defeat and needed to return to winning ways to get their Cup challenge back on track. Boca Seniors were looking to get off the mark after only narrowly failing to secure a point in their last fixture.

There were goals galore in this one with two strikes in the first half – both going to Finca Del Tutu as Jorge Herrero Jimenez made it 3 goals in 3 games and Jesus Munoz Duro opened his personal account.

The game really opened up in the second period as we had six more goals to enjoy – Joe Marsh and Andy Scott both getting on the scoresheet for Boca and there was a goal from Juan Miguel Munoz Duro and a hat-trick from Juan Jesus Castells Duro. The game finished 6-2.

Boca Seniors had managed to double their “Goals For” tally but sadly for them their “Goals Against” had risen by the same factor. They had one game to go to get off the mark in the group phase. Finca Del Tutu were up into second.

Che Que Bo!!! had a game in hand on the other teams in Group A and this would be against top of the table Sparta. Win it and they could go 2 nd and they could win Group A with two wins. For Sparta, it was their last group game and they needed only 1 point to guarantee winning Group A (although Cup qualification was already theirs).

Che Que Bo!!! took the lead through David Ortiz Navarro – his third in three games. This game had the feel and intensity of a title decider and it could well prove to be the that. Che Que Bo!!! lead 1-0 at the break. This was not the first time Sparta had been in this position – against Finca Del Tutu they recovered to win 3-1. Could they muster another comeback?

Anotonio Garcia Medrano scored for Sparta after the interval as they started the comeback trail again but Navarro and Che Que Bo!!! had different ideas. Navarro's 4 th of the day ensured Che Que Bo!!! would regain the lead and with it take the match 2-1.

It was a huge win for Che Que Bo!!! as they moved second on 7 points but had one game to go – if they could win it they would move on to 10 points and claim the Group A title. It was in their hands.

Game 9 was between the two teams at the foot of the table with 4th placed Saipan FC taking on 5th placed Boca Seniors. Essentially this game was playing for pride as, due to other results, the Cup was beyond these two teams. However, a win here should mean a theoretically easier Plate Quarter-Final draw. It was also a chance to build some momentum going into the knock-out stages and so there was still plenty to play for.

It was the team representing Ireland who went 1-0 up through Barry Lysaght with his now customary captain's goal. From there Saipan FC never looked back as Agus Benedito Galmes struck twice to make it 3-0 at half-time.

After the break Saipan FC were ruthless with Agus Benedito Galmes going on to complete his hat-trick. Albert Llussa scored twice and Beat Schiffhauer rounded off the scoring as the Saipan number 7 scored his team's 7th and rounded off a resounding 7-0 victory.

For Boca Seniors it was a tough end to their group phase. We hoped they could pick themselves up for the knockout phase as there was a fresh start and they could still walk away from today with a winner's trophy and medals.

The final game of Group A was Finca Del Tutu versus Che Que Bo!!! in an all-Spain encounter. There was just 1 point between the two teams and the reward for a win would be the Group A title (potentially) for the victors. Che Que Bo!!! would certainly win Group A on points, Finca Del Tutu would need to win by 4 to win the Group on goal difference. Whoever lost the game would finish 3rd and would have to wait and see if they had done enough to qualify for the Cup as one of the two-best 3rd placed finishes. A draw would see Sparta win the group, Che Que Bo!!! qualify for the Cup in second place and Finca Del Tutu finish 3rd but looking at other groups to see if they had a Cup place.

The permutations were numerous but the teams had to ignore that and just try to get a result. It was honours even at half-time with goals from Borja Cuesta Rodriguez Manzaneque (Che Que Bo!!!) and Jesus Munoz Duro (Finca Del Tutu) cancelling each other out. 1-1. We had three goals to enjoy in the second period and it was Fica Del Tutu who emerged victorious as Jorge Herrero Jimenez scored twice (5 in 4 games) to outgun Pablo Robles Minguert of Che Que Bo!!! and won the game 3-2.

The biggest winners were the watching Sparta as it meant they would win Group A. As it turned out Che Que Bo!!! had done enough to qualify for the Cup in 3rd place joining Sparta and Finca Del Tutu.
