FC Biermeisters were up next after a little break due to their walkover three points. They were up to 6th position and could climb to 4th with another three points. In their way stood Saipan FC who were the current occupants of that 4th position but came into this game on the back of a heavy defeat to Csabagyongye. Could they respond?

With the game underway it was the Irish side who struck first through Joey Fisher. It was a goal that would give them a 1-0 lead at the break. If they could keep this up they would move on to 9 points and just a point off the lead of the table.

They moved a goal closer to this position when Cormac McLoughlin made it 2-0 in the second half. The points were sealed when Benjamin Schoch made it 3-0. Saipan FC had lost 4-0 in the last game and were to bounce back in style winning by that same margin against the Biermeisters when captain Barry Lysaght completed the job.

Saipan FC remained in 4th but were in touching distance of those above them. The title was very much still in their sights.

New Milton Eagles collected their 3-0 walkover win in the next scheduled fixture that was due to be against Al Kaloida. This put New Milton Eagles on 8 points and there were 2 points separating the top 5 teams at this stage – the Plate Champion of Champions tournament was wide open.

The pressure was on Csabagyongye and SV Zoo as league leaders – the pack were chasing and there were 3 teams within a victory of them. A win for either team here would be a giant stride towards the title. Without a doubt this was the biggest game of the tournament to date.

It was Hungary versus Germany and both teams were unbeaten with 3 wins and a draw. With just two rounds to go after this games were running out, results were becoming more and more important and the tension was increasing.

As you may expect between two teams at the top this was a close game with quality football on display. There was little to choose between the two teams and the game needed a hero to separate the two clubs. There was just the one goal in the game and it was Peter Dovak with his 5th goal of the tournament who would prove to be that hero.

His strike won the game for Csabagyongye and they surged to 13 points and a 3 point lead. It was a great result for them and would have dealt a blow to those chasing teams….although Alphasights still had a game in hand.

The game in hand for Alphasights was up next and it was a vital game for them. If they could win it they would move into 2nd place and just a point behind Csabagyongye. GBS Reds had struggled so far with a draw in their opening game and 3 subsequent defeats….now would be the right time to get their form back on track.

We reached half-time and the teams were level at 0-0. A draw was not much use for either team as it would keep GBS Reds in 7th position. It would be enough for Alphasights to move into 2nd place above SV Zoo on goal difference but they would be 3 points off the league leaders. Could they find a victory and reduce that deficit to one point.

You could sense that the pressure cranking up and it was like an end of season finale. Teams were having to grind out the results they needed and there was no room for error.

Dean Prosineca broke the deadlock in the second half to give Alphasights they craved and, with the breakthrough, they went from strength to strength as Andreas Friedberg and Johannes Koch stretched the lead to record a 3-0 win. In such a tight group goal difference could well be crucial and the size of the win would no doubt help. Like a long-distance runner on the final bend, Alphasights were tucked right in behind the leaders and ready to kick-on in the final straight.
