As we entered the final Round of games there was much to play for to decide which of the top four teams would play in the Cup and which would play in the Plate. The only thing that was decided was the fact that Arenal All Stars and Midway FC would miss out on qualification as they played their final Group B fixtures.

They came face-to-face in what was their last chance to claim a victory in the 2011 Mallorca Tournament. The two teams could not have closer records, both had 1 draw and 1 point. Both had conceded 9 goals but the fact that Arenal All Stars had scored two to Midway's one meant that they were in 5th place. Therefore, if the game finished in a draw it would be them who would have the higher group finish.

The first half reflected the group to date with nothing really splitting the two teams. Gary Whelan scored for Midway FC, Lee Baynes scored for Arenal All Stars as the teams turned around at the interval 1-1. In the second half we were to see a decisive shift as Baynes second of the game gave his team the advantage. A Stephen Grittelis double meant that the game finished 4-1 and secured the honour of 5th place for his team.

Midway FC's day was over on the field but they still had their sister squad Midway Northerners to cheer on in the Cup competition and, of course, the bar was well stocked for their refreshment.

Game 14 promised to be an enthralling encounter as Quayaquil 100% were on the charge for Cup qualification. Since opening game defeat they had won 3 on the spin. FC Dukesfield had led at the end of Round 2 and Round 3 of Group B but one narrow defeat and they were in 4th . How would they react?

With Scorgasm FC and Inter Urmum to come FC Dukesfield knew only a win would really be good enough although a draw would serve Quayaquil 100% well and give them Cup qualification. If they wanted to win the group though the Ecuador team would need to win and win by more than Inter Urmum.

So far, FC Dukesfield games had only seen three goals in four games. In the first-half alone there were three goals in this fixture – it was not surprising as they needed to win and therefore needed goals. However, it was Quayaquil 100% who led at the break thanks to their twin-pronged attack of Zapata and Cuedillos who scored one each. Michael Crane scored for FC Dukesfield to keep them in the hunt.

As the game progressed though Quayaquil 100% reinforced their claim on Cup qualification and also the Group B title as Zapata went goal crazy – he scored a hat-trick, four for the game and 8 for the tournament. Rolando Acuazado also got on the scoresheet. Although Ian Watts scored for FC Dukesfield it was never going to be enough at this stage as Quayaquil 100% ran out 6-2 victors. With four successive wins they were going to be a tough team to stop in the knock-out phase.

The defeat condemned FC Dukesfield to the Plate competition but still very much with the chance of winning silverware.

The final game of Group B was Inter Urmum versus Scorgasm FC. So, what was needed? From Inter Urmum's perspective a win would see them join Quayaquil 100% on 12 points and qualify for the Cup, a win by 6 goals would see them claim the Group B title. Given FC Dukesfield's defeat a draw would be enough for Cup qualification, a defeat would mean the Plate. For Scorgasm FC the equation was much more simple – win and Cup football would be theirs.

When the two teams reached half-time the scoreline would have made much happier reading to Inter Urmum as 0-0 meant it was them going through. Their chances of topping the group looked gone barring an astonishing second half. The game was still precarious and just one goal could be decisive and change the whole qualification scenario. When we were to get a goal it was Ross Penrose of Scorgasm FC who claimed it.

Not only did he get one goal but he scored a fine hat-trick. It was a performance to send his team into the Cup and leave Inter Urmum scratching their heads as they had seen their Cup place slip through their fingers in one half of football. It was a great performance from Penrose and Scorgasm FC who had won their last two games to lift themselves into second place and the Cup. They would go into the knock-out stages with confidence.

Inter Urmum would be playing their knockout football in the Plate competition as they finished a creditable 3rd place. This result also confirmed Quayaquil 100% as Group B winners – well done to them.
