Our eleventh ever Trophy Final now awaited us and we had been treated to some superb Finals before.

The first ever Trophy Final in eurofootballfives.com history took place in Berlin 2012 and was a dramatic affair as Hertha Beerlin versus FC Cobaltslautern went all the way to penalties. In Valencia 2012, Sporting Abeergut held off a late rally from FC Dad to win it 3-2. At the 2013 Barcelona Fives we needed another penalty shoot-out as Spain's Drunk Perfect and Ireland's Deportivo Dooradoyle drew 1-1. The Irish team then won 2-1 on penalties. At the 2014 Budapest Fives, Contejus Hurricanes (with a man sent off) held on to a close 2-1 win over Cava Sundays.

They had all been close affairs until 2014 when we saw Ziar Crew beat Fireball 5-1 in Bratislava and Elcombe Old Boys beat SV Zoo 5-0 in Barcelona.

Since then we have had a 1-1 draw in the 2015 Lisbon Tournament before Frank Hirth A defeated Red Cow Belgrade 3-1 on penalties. At the 2015 Barcelona Fives, Bolivar (playing as Equipo de Christian) defeated FC Atwood, 3-0. In 2016 we saw Aliance defeat FC Maroon on penalties (3-2) after a 0-0 draw in the 2016 Riga Tournament. Here in Barcelona in 2016, Bolivar became the first team to win two Trophy competitions as they defeated Giggs Boson 2-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The stage was now set for Leek High Boys and CBD Boys to set their own little piece of history. These two teams had met earlier in the day, in Group A, and on that occasion they had drawn 1-1. A repeat of that would mean a 6th penalty shoot-out would be required in just 11 Trophy Finals.

Leek High Boys missed out on glory in the Plate Final twelve months ago to Club Esportiu Llefia – could they go one better and win the Trophy here in 2017? They had an excellent chance with Tommy Coates up front looking for team glory and for personal glory as he was just 1 goal behind the leaders in the top goal-scorer charts. He had 10 goals today.

CBD Boys had spread the goals around their front two with Daley Mathias (6) and Rubik Menezes (5) providing their firepower. The Omani's Trophy campaign had been built on solid defence and they had not yet conceded in the knock-out phase with David Garcia Gallego looking for a fourth clean sheet in a row.

David Garcia Gallego was assisted by Deepesh Mehta and Arjun Nanda providing a solid defence in front of him. It was this solid defence that helped them towards victory. At the other end the goals flowed as Rubik Menezes started things off to make it 1-0 to the Oman team.

Daley Mathias added a second as he became his team's top scorer on the day with 7. He was take his tally to 8 as he sealed the Trophy win. Final score, 3-0.

Our commiserations go to Leek High Boys who gave it a real go today – they were bridesmaids for the second time in as many years. We look forward to seeing them return to action in the future and maybe the medals they pick up will be of the winning variety next time. Third time lucky?

For today though, we present you the 2017 Barcelona Fives Trophy Winners – many congratulations to CBD Boys. Our first ever winners to represent Oman.
