Murder on Zidane's Floor (Hol)

At the start of Round 5, we would see Humble Goats versus Colonel Getafe. This was a top of the table clash. Both teams had already secured Cup qualification but the Group A title was still up for grabs. This was still an important game not just for the sporting win, the honour of victory and the group win but also to get a theoretically easier Cup Semi-Final tie. It was also a chance to lay down a marker in case these two teams would meet again in the Cup Final later today.

Both teams had a 100% record so it was all the spoils to the winner but at half-time we had no sign of a winner. The first half came and went with the teams locked together at 0-0. Should the game finish in a draw then it would be Colonel Getafe who would claim the Group A win via the slimmest of margins. Teams are separated by goal difference when locked on equal points – both teams had a goal difference of +10. So the next criteria to look at was goals scored. This would mean Colonel Getafe winning the group by virtue of the fact they had scored 12 goals to the Humble Goats 11.

The onus was therefore on Humble Goats to go for the win in this match. However, the teams were still locked in stale-mate at full-time. Both defences were on top and we finished goalless at 0-0.

Congratulations to Colonel Getafe who qualified for the Cup as Group A winners. Congratulations also to Humble Goats for reaching the Cup. Both teams remained unbeaten.

Game 14 of Group A was the fixture between FC Tpaktop and JK Silvertown. JK Silvertown had a slither of a chance of qualification. They needed to win this game with a swing in goal difference of 4 goals. They also needed Murder on Zidane's Floor to lose their final game and lose by at least 7. Unlikely but not impossible.

Provided they didn't lose, FC Tpaktop had to equal or better the result of Murder on Zidane's Floor to stay above them and claim fourth position which would mean progression to the Plate.

The game began with Leonid Sislo giving FC Tpaktop the lead before the game being abandoned. JK Silvertown had hit the wall and the referee awarded FC Tpaktop. Due to this win and results elsewhere it did not effect the qualification process.

The 15th and final game of Group A would see Turn Down For Watford take on Murder on Zidane's Floor. With the other 14 games complete both teams knew exactly what they had to do.

From a Turn Down For Watford, they needed to avoid defeat to secure third position. There was still a slim chance they could slip to fifth position if they were to lose by 10 goals that would see them drop below their opponents and FC Tpaktop on goal difference. Murder on Zidane's Floor needed a win to qualify for the Plate at the expense of FC Tpaktop. Anything less and they would be eliminated from the tournament.

It didn't start well for Murder on Zidane's Floor as Jase Opoku Afriyie put Turn Down For Watford 1-0 up. Lygel D'Mello soon raised their spirits though as he equalised for 1-1. That joy was short-lived when Ben Gregory regained the lead for the English. Charlie Reeves extended that lead to 3-1 and at half-time the game looked up for Dutch team. To underline the point Rich Lyons made it 4-1 in the second half to secure the win for Turn Down For Watford.

Congratulations to Turn Down For WAtford who secured their place in the Plate. Commiserations to Murder on Zidane's Floor but they still had the Amsterdam Sixes to look forward to next weekend.
