At the start of Round 3 we had Spider Mans & Eagle versus Amsterdam Barbarians. The two teams currently found themselves in third and second place respectively. This was a chance for both teams to go top (temporarily at least).

We mentioned in Round 2 that Spider Mans had competed in this tournament in 2016. This was actually their third Amsterdam appearance as they returned to Amsterdam in 2017 which saw them compete in our inaugural Amsterdam Sixes. A couple of narrow 2-1 defeats were sprinkled amongst 3 comprehensive victories as they finished down in fourth despite a +11 goal difference. It meant they would qualify for the Plate. They defeated New Zealand's Skackney FC (2-0) and the Netherlands' Tommy Hilfiger (3-2) to lift their first eurofootballfives.com trophy.

Spider Mans & Eagle could well be aiming for higher than the Plate this year but slow starts were beginning to hamper their progress. Yassin Amellal scored for the third game in a row to put Amsterdam Barbarians 1-0 up. This was now the third game in a row Spider Mans & Eagle had conceded the opening goal. They recovered the situation in Round 1 and were on the comeback trail again in Round 3. Ryan Stevens equalized and then put Spider Mans & Eagle ahead with his 5 th and 6 th goals of the tournament. He was currently the front runner for the top goalscorer award.

Rudy Takacs equalized for Amsterdam Barbarians before Redwan Amellal put them ahead for the second time in the game. The momentum had swung in favour of the Dutch team as Luca Barbet's goal secured a 4-2 win.

Groove Armada versus Milstead was the next item on the Group B menu. Group B had showed us that all teams were capable of taking points off each other. At this juncture, a win would send the victor surging up the table but a defeat would see them off the pace. In golf, the third round is often called moving day. It is round 3 in these 6-team groups that often has the same effect.

Groove Armada could go within a point of top spot if they were to win this. On the other hand a Milstead win would mean just 4 points covering the top 5 with two rounds to go.

Despite a slow start to the day (5-0 defeat), Groove Armada were now well and truly in the, well, ‘groove'. A 2-1 win last time out was now followed by a 3-0 success over fellow countrymen, Milstead. Paul Oliver set them on their way before Ethan McCreight and Jack Rusbridge all found the back of the net. All men had scored their first of the day as Groove Armada were showing they had goals from all other the team.

Game #9 of Group B was Atletico Armada versus Minisernal. This was a clash between the top of the table and the bottom of the table. Games don't always go according to the form-book in our tournaments but this one certainly did.

It was one-way traffic for much of the game as Atletico Armada came flying out of the traps. Ben Renshaw set them on their way before Dean Stockdale made it 2-0. The same combination made it 3-0 and then 4-0. It was only half-time. Atletico Armada were ruthless in the second period as Jimmy Denman made it 5-0. Dean Stockdale completed his hat-trick for 6-0 and added another for good measure, 7-0. Dan Hickling made it 8-0 before Minisernal had a little period of success. Sergio Flores reduced the arrears to 8-1 before Christopher Eteka scored a couple to make it 8-3. The mother of all comebacks was never really on and this was underlined when Dan Hickling scored his second of the match to complete the 9-3 win.

It was the biggest win of the day so far as Atletico Armada kept their 100% record going. Minisernal also had a 100% record but not the kind you want.
