eurofootballfives.com
made a long awaited debut in Budapest in 2011
and boy was it worth the wait. 20 teams from the
Czech Republic, England, France, Hungary and Sweden
assembled to do battle in the Hungarian Capital.
On
a glorious summer's day the football was every
bit as glorious as the weather. The big story
throughout the day was whether Olympic Phil Babb
could make it tournament win number four. Following
success in the 2008 Amsterdam Fives, 2009 Algarve
Open, 2010 Prague Masters they were favourites
to add the 2011 Budapest Fives trophy to their
cabinet. Could they do it?
Well,
yes they could but it was not easy. They needed
two penalty shoot-outs and a narrow 1-0 Quarter-Final
win against a spirited Centrale Paris A team in
order to secure the prize. If anyone was in any
doubt of their champions quality - they showed
it here in abundance. Word is the 2012 Mallorca
Tournament is their next target.
We
have to say commisserations to Budapest Celtic
Tigers and Csabagyongye who came so close in the
Final and Semi-Finals respectively.
The
Plate competition was won by local team Al Kaloida
defeating English team Deportivo Lack of Talent
2-1 in a close final.
The
Wooden Spoon prize saw Whiteley VII defeat Swedish
team A Magyar Pekseg to pick up the little wooden
objet d'art!
Personal
honours in the Top Goalscorer category went to
Al Kaloida's Marci Marcovits with a collection
of 8 goals on the day.
What
a day, what a tournament, what a post-tournament
social! See you next year! |
